Ourém approves study for IC9 and A1 motorway connection

The Ourém Municipality has approved a traffic study supporting the creation of a direct connection between the IC9 itinerary and the A1 motorway in Santa Catarina da Serra. The study, conducted in collaboration with the Leiria Municipality at the request of the government, deems the connection technically and functionally viable.

According to Mayor Luís Albuquerque, the new link is expected to improve regional accessibility, enhance road network performance, and increase traffic fluidity. Specifically, the connection aims to relieve congestion on the Loureira road and improve access to Fátima during periods of high seasonal demand.

The findings will be submitted to several entities, including the Municipality of Leiria, Infraestruturas de Portugal, the Institute for Mobility and Transport, Brisa, and the central government, to advance the necessary procedures for implementation.
