Ousainou Darboe renews opposition alliance for 2026 Gambia election

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has renewed its alliance with Gambia for All (GFA), a move intended to consolidate opposition strength ahead of the December 2026 presidential election in The Gambia. During a signing ceremony in Manjai, UDP leader Ousainou Darboe described the upcoming vote as the most consequential in the nation’s history.

Darboe warned that the country’s political future is at risk if President Adama Barrow secures a third term, stating that a victory for the incumbent could lead to a situation where government changes might only occur through unconstitutional means.

As part of his campaign platform, Darboe pledged that a UDP-led government would prioritize constitutional reform, economic restructuring, and the creation of a non-partisan security sector. He also proposed transforming the civil service into a politically neutral entity where advancement is based on merit rather than political affiliation.
