Ousmane Sonko faces scrutiny over Casamance peace fund usage
Questions have been raised regarding the use of funds intended for the peace process in Casamance, specifically concerning the actions of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. Idrissa Benjamin Sané has called for accountability regarding resources mobilized under previous administrations of Abdoulaye Wade and Macky Sall. These funds were designated for the resettlement of displaced persons and the construction of essential infrastructure, such as schools, health centers, and production tracks, rather than the general budget of the National Agency for the Recovery of Economic and Social Activities in Casamance (ANRAC).
Concerns have been voiced that these resources may have been diverted to other public expenditures, including the renovation of the administrative building and the purchase of vehicles. Moussa Cissé, Secretary General of the Collective of Casamance Executives, stated that when public financing is allocated for a specific purpose, that destination should be respected. Cissé noted that his collective had not been informed of how successive governments utilized funds dedicated to the peace process involving the Democratic Forces of Casamance Movement (MFDC).
