Ousmane Sonko Declares No Institutional Crisis in Senegal, Calls for Political Stability

At a large rally in Dakar Arena, Ousmane Sonko, president of the Pastef‑Les Patriotes party, addressed supporters and urged the government to prioritize national stability and institutional cohesion. He warned against “political calculations” that could weaken the state, stating, “There is no institutional crisis in Senegal,” and cautioned that the country has suffered enough from “plots and conspiracies.”

Sonko also called for a change in party conduct, saying insults and provocations must end and that militants should respect religious and traditional leaders. He outlined ambitious organisational goals – one million registered members and ten thousand local cells – and stressed the need to avoid any postponement of the 2027 local elections. The leader framed the current political configuration as a “cohabitation” that does not threaten Senegal’s security or stability, and he urged all political actors to collaborate within their constitutional mandates.

His speech came amid ongoing political tensions, but Sonko portrayed the situation as a misunderstanding rather than a crisis, emphasizing that the state and its institutions remain secure.
