Ousseynou Diop wins fifth consecutive Dakar-Gorée Crossing

Ousseynou Diop of ASFA secured his fifth consecutive victory in the men’s professional category at the 37th edition of the Dakar-Gorée Crossing. The military-affiliated swimmer led an ASFA podium sweep, with teammate Moussa Guèye taking second place and Sergeant Adama Thiaw Ndir finishing third.

In the women’s professional race, Aïcha Diop representing AOC claimed victory. The event also saw significant amateur participation, with over 900 competitors participating in the 4.5-kilometer course, while professionals navigated a 5.2-kilometer stretch between Dakar and Gorée Island.

Reflecting on the competition's long history, former winners from the inaugural years—Hachim Badji, Mouhamed Diop, and Samba Ndoye—recently reunited to discuss the evolution of the race. Mouhamed Diop, who previously led the Senegalese swimming federation for nearly two decades, noted the enduring spirit of fair play that has characterized the event since its inception.
