Ousseynou Fall detained over military defamation charges

Ousseynou Fall, known as ‘Caporal Fall’, has been taken into custody by the Colobane research section in Senegal. An former military member and political activist for the Pastef party, Fall is facing charges related to the dissemination of false news and defamation against the Senegalese armed forces.

The investigation stems from a video broadcast in 2022 in which Fall commented on the military. As part of the inquiry, journalist Pape Ousmane Cissé, who hosted the program where the footage was aired, was summoned for questioning. Cissé was released following his hearing without being placed in custody.
