Outdoor landscaping and lawn care tips for heatwaves

Common landscaping mistakes can turn outdoor spaces into heat traps during heatwaves. Using dark flooring materials on south-facing terraces can make surfaces too hot to touch, while opaque pergolas without adjustable slats can create a greenhouse effect, trapping hot air. Additionally, high-maintenance lawns and white gravel paths can contribute to thermal discomfort and high water consumption.

For lawns damaged by summer heat, many enter a dormancy state where they turn yellow but remain alive at the root. To restore a lawn, gardeners recommend localized reseeding between late August and early September. This period offers warm soil for germination and cooler nights, providing an ideal window to repair bare patches and densify the grass before winter.
