Outkast sues rapper Ovrkast over trademark infringement

The Grammy-winning hip-hop duo Outkast, through its trademark entity High Schoolers LLC, has filed a federal lawsuit against rapper-producer Ovrkast. (born Silas Wilson) alleging trademark infringement and unfair competition. The lawsuit claims the artist's stage name is “nearly identical” and confusingly similar to the legendary group's name.

In addition to trademark claims, the lawsuit alleges a breach of contract. Outkast asserts that Ovrkast had previously agreed to rebrand his stage name during settlement negotiations but failed to honor the change by the July 15 deadline.

Ovrkast has denied the allegations, stating he established his name independently and has no intention of misrepresenting or confusing fans. He expressed respect for Outkast's legacy and expressed hope for a resolution that allows him to continue his career. Ovrkast is scheduled to release his sophomore album, Striking, on October 9.
