Outlander franchise expands with prequel developments and Caitriona Balfe's return

The television universe based on Diana Gabaldon’s novels continues to expand with the prequel series ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’. The mid-season chapter of the second season, titled “Forgive Me, Father,” focuses on the 1715 Jacobite Rising and the Battle of Sheriffmuir. The narrative follows the parallel romances that shaped the lineage of Claire and Jamie Fraser, featuring characters such as Brian Fraser and Dougal MacKenzie.

Actress Caitriona Balfe, known for her role as Claire Fraser in the original ‘Outlander’ series, is returning to the screen following a six-month hiatus. After the conclusion of her long-running role, Balfe will appear in the biographical film ‘Tenzing’, portraying Jill Henderson. The original ‘Outlander’ series is scheduled to conclude its final season on Netflix starting March 7, 2026.
