Oven cleaning made easy with baking soda, vinegar and lemon

Cleaning a greasy oven can be done without harsh chemicals by using common household ingredients. A thick paste of baking soda and hot water is applied to a cooled oven and left for several hours or overnight; the alkaline paste softens and lifts carbonised grease. After the waiting period, the residue is removed with a damp sponge.

For stubborn grime, a tray of water with white vinegar can be heated in the oven to about 100 °C for 20 minutes, creating steam that loosens deposits. The steam‑softened surfaces are then treated with the baking‑soda paste. Adding lemon slices to the hot water creates additional vapour and a fresh scent. The methods avoid abrasive metal pads and caustic cleaners, reducing irritation and chemical residues on cookware.

Both guides advise regular light cleaning after cooking to prevent buildup, recommend a deep clean every two to three months, and warn against using overly alkaline or abrasive products that can damage the oven enamel.
