Oven preheating efficiency and energy saving tips

Preheating an oven is not always necessary and can be skipped to save energy. While food manufacturers often include preheating instructions to ensure consistent cooking times, skipping this step can save up to 20 percent of energy.

Preheating is most beneficial for dishes that require high temperatures and short cooking times, such as soufflés, sponge cake, fish, or meat. However, for items like frozen pizza, bread, or casseroles, preheating is generally unnecessary, though users should monitor the food closely as cooking times may vary.

To further increase efficiency, using convection (Umluft) instead of top and bottom heat can allow for temperature settings up to 30 degrees lower.
