Over 300 U.S. companies continue to operate in Russia

More than 300 American companies continue to operate in Russia despite direct U.S. bans or efforts to prevent their presence, according to Russian Presidential Advisor Anton Kobyakov. Speaking on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, Kobyakov stated that these businesses have no plans to leave the market, citing the value of maintaining communication channels and their specific business interests.

Kobyakov emphasized that the Russian government does not obstruct companies that choose to stay, treating them equally to domestic firms as essential entities operating within the economy. This comes despite a wave of Western departures following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022. Data from the Yale School of Management indicates that over 1,000 foreign businesses have since withdrawn or reduced their operations in Russia.

While some major brands like Renault, McDonald’s, and Henkel previously signed agreements to exit, there are indications that some may eventually seek to reacquire assets. Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin has prioritized a new investment cycle in industrial, agricultural, service, and housing sectors to drive economic growth.
