Sony reportedly shuts down Overdrive PS5 piracy store

A new piracy storefront named Overdrive, designed for jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles, has reportedly been shut down following legal pressure. The application functioned as an unofficial digital store, allowing users with modified hardware to download over 1,600 games and DLCs for free. The catalog included major titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and Black Myth: Wukong.

Reports indicate that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s lawyers issued cease-and-desist letters to the developers, leading to the disappearance of the original GitHub repository. While the primary service was disabled, various clones and forks of the software appeared on GitHub within hours of the shutdown.

The emergence of Overdrive follows the release of the Relapse jailbreak by developer Nathan Fargo, which affected firmware versions 7.00 through 13.60. Sony has since released firmware updates, such as version 14.00 and 14.10, specifically designed to patch these vulnerabilities and restrict unauthorized access.
