Overijse prepares for Superprestige Druivencross amid storm warnings

The Druivencross in Overijse, the opening round of the eight-event Superprestige cyclocross calendar, is set to take place on Sunday, 25 October 2026. Organizers are closely monitoring weather forecasts as Storm Austin is expected to bring wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour.

As a safety precaution, the organizing committee, De Sportvrienden, has begun removing trees in Mariëndal Park, where part of the course is located. Willy Van Roy, chairman of the committee, stated that while preparations are progressing well, the organization is taking no unnecessary risks regarding the weather.

On the competitive side, Michael Vanthourenhout enters as the defending champion following his 2025 success. Other riders in strong form include Joris Nieuwenhuis, who recently won the Nacht van Woerden. Local talent Xander Danckaarts is also scheduled to compete in the under-23 category.

The event expects approximately 3,000 visitors, with local residents of Overijse permitted to attend for free.
