Overijssel reports multiple crashes, power cut and fire on May 15

A series of emergencies unfolded across the Dutch province of Overijssel on 15 May. A driver was trapped in a car that left the N737 near Deurningen, rolled into a tree and was rescued by fire crews before being taken to hospital. In Deventer, a cyclist was struck at the 1e Weerdsweg–Sallandstraat intersection after a car failed to yield; the cyclist was hospitalized and the street was temporarily closed. A separate collision in Wierden involving a car and two cyclists left a child with minor injuries, and police handed the youngster a teddy bear for comfort.

Additional incidents included a head‑on crash between two cyclists on the Oldemarktseweg near Basse around midnight, which left one rider seriously injured and required a trauma helicopter. A fire in an electricity cabinet on Boerenbondstraat in Haaksbergen caused a power outage affecting 49 postcode areas, forcing several shops to close until the outage was resolved later in the afternoon. Finally, a medium‑scale fire broke out in a veranda and shed on Linderflier in Vroomshoop, leading to evacuations of nearby homes and the demolition of part of the structure by fire crews. The causes of the vehicle crash, the electricity‑cabinet fire and the veranda blaze remain under investigation.
