Overseas Koreans Agency launches mentoring program for youth in South Korea
The Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA) has launched the ‘2026 Chorong Mentoring’ program to support overseas Korean youth struggling with school life and academic adaptation in South Korea. The initiative, which held its kickoff ceremony on October 24 in Seoul, pairs university and graduate students of Korean descent with elementary, middle, and high school students.
Mentors will provide guidance in Korean language, basic academic subjects, and career exploration. They will also share personal experiences regarding school life and cultural integration. The program includes training in school violence prevention to ensure a safe environment for participants.
The pilot phase will focus on areas with high concentrations of overseas Koreans, including Seoul, Ansan, Incheon, and Siheung. Following the pilot, the agency plans to expand the program to additional regions next year in collaboration with local education offices and municipal governments.
