Overtone startup launches AI-driven dating app

Justin McLeod, the former CEO of Hinge, has launched a new startup called Overtone that utilizes artificial intelligence to facilitate romantic connections. Moving away from traditional mechanics like swiping and liking, the app will feature users talking to an AI that listens to their personal stories to identify compatible partners.

Overtone has already secured $18 million in funding and is expected to begin testing by the end of this year. McLeod aims to address the loneliness epidemic by replacing unnatural digital behaviors—such as judging profiles based on photos in seconds—with more meaningful interactions. This move follows a trend where Hinge has seen a 22% revenue increase, while Tinder reported a 4% decrease in daily active users.
