Ovidio Guzmán López hearing postponed to April 2027
The status hearing for Ovidio Guzmán López, son of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, has been postponed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Originally scheduled for December 7, 2026, the hearing has been rescheduled to April 14, 2027, following an agreement between the defense and the prosecution.
Guzmán López, also known as ‘El Ratón’, previously entered a guilty plea in Chicago on July 11, 2025. He pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to traffic drugs and two counts of knowingly participating in a continuing criminal organization. As part of his plea agreement, which resolved charges in both Illinois and the Southern District of New York, he admitted to coordinating the transport of massive quantities of cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl from Mexico to the U.S. border. He also agreed to an $80 million fine.
