Oviedo community holds vigil over potential BG Investment Group job losses

Residents, workers, and community leaders in Oviedo, Pedernales, held a candlelight vigil in front of the BG Investment Group facilities to protest the potential loss of 85 direct jobs. The community has declared a “state of mourning” due to the economic paralysis caused by the company's suspended operations.

BG Investment Group, a textile recycling firm, reports that its containers have been held by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) for approximately one month for inspection purposes. The company and community members allege they have not received a definitive report to resolve the situation and claim they are receiving unequal treatment compared to similar companies in the sector.

The operational halt affects approximately 250 families and threatens the livelihoods of about 300 children. Local business owners, including those in transport and food services, have also reported a drastic drop in sales due to the lack of circulating currency in the municipality.
