Oviedo hosts 24th National Pharmaceutical Congress
The 24th National Pharmaceutical Congress has commenced in Oviedo, Spain, under the theme ‘Innovation With Pharmaceutical Science’. Organized by the General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges in collaboration with the Official College of Pharmacists of Asturias, the three-day event focuses on regulatory, care-based, digital, technological, and social aspects of the profession.
To mark the opening, a free outdoor exhibition titled ‘History of Pharmacy’ has been launched in Plaza Porlier. The month-long display traces the evolution of the profession from Ancient Greece and the Middle Ages to the industrialization of medicine and the establishment of the Royal Apothecary in 1594. The exhibition aims to highlight the pharmaceutical sector's contributions to public health.
The congress features high-level participation, including an inaugural lecture by María Neira regarding the role of pharmacists in addressing global health challenges. Institutional attendees include representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Principality of Asturias, and the Oviedo City Council.
