Oviedo mayor Canteli faces criticism after losing public health agency bid

Vox representative Sonsoles Peralta said Oviedo mayor Alfredo Canteli’s administration improvised the bid for the Spanish Public Health Agency, citing last‑minute changes, insufficient technical preparation and failure to meet minimum requirements. The central government rejected the proposal, which Vox had warned was unviable, and the party portrayed the loss as evidence of the city’s poor planning.

In a separate council issue, the PSOE’s municipal spokesperson Carlos Fernández Llaneza called for the concrete pavement on José “El Xarreru” road – a main link between the Fitoria and Toleo de Arriba neighborhoods – to be replaced with asphalt. He argued the current surface causes vehicles to slip in wet weather, creating a safety risk for residents, and urged the executive to act swiftly.
