Oviedo protesters demand resignation of Mayor Canteli

Approximately 2,500 people gathered in Oviedo's City Hall square to protest and demand the resignation of Mayor Alfredo Canteli. The demonstration was organized by the collectives Fiestes Populares and AMA Asturies.

The protest follows recent physical aggressions against AMA Asturies militants Rubén Rosón and Jorge Fernández, as well as repeated acts of vandalism against their San Mateo festival stall. Protesters accused the political party Vox of inciting or normalizing the violence.

During the mobilization, activists criticized local Vox representatives for their rhetoric, specifically citing comments made by deputy José María Figaredo and councilwoman Sonsoles Peralta. Organizers stated the goal of the march was to defend a democratic society against what they described as far-right hatred and violence.
