Oviedo to rent temporary parquet for Palacio de los Deportes
The Oviedo City Council has developed a plan to ensure Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto can begin its season following severe flooding at the Palacio de los Deportes. The flood rendered the original parquet floor, which cost approximately 400,000 euros, completely unusable.
To mitigate the impact, the city will rent a portable parquet floor from a specialized company to be installed temporarily. This solution aims to allow the team to play its first home game of the Primera FEB season, scheduled for October 3 against Covirán Granada, while a permanent replacement is manufactured. Municipal sources estimate the production of a new court will take three to four months.
The decision follows meetings with insurance representatives, allowing for the removal of the damaged wood to proceed with the insurance claim. While Mayor Alfredo Canteli initially hoped the original floor could be recovered, the extent of the water damage has necessitated a full replacement.
