Owe Gustafson designs Pink Ribbon for Cancerfonden

Illustrator Owe Gustafson has designed this year’s Pink Ribbon for Cancerfonden, the Swedish Cancer Society. The design features a pink elephant, a character famously associated with Gustafson’s work on the children’s program ‘Fem myror är fler än fyra elefanter’, with its trunk curved into a heart shape.

The design aims to symbolize strength, love, and community. Gustafson noted that elephants represent wisdom and strength, which he felt suited the campaign. He expressed a personal connection to the cause, mentioning his own recent cancer diagnosis and his wife’s history with breast cancer.

The Pink Ribbon campaign runs throughout October to raise funds for cancer research and increase awareness regarding breast cancer. Ulrika Årehed Kågström, Secretary General of Cancerfonden, stated that the design emphasizes that strength comes from being there for one another rather than fighting alone.
