Owen Ansah Wins Double German Sprint Titles Despite Doping Test Refusal

Sprinter Owen Ansah claimed victories in the 100 metre (10.00 seconds) and 200 metre (20.13 seconds personal best) at the German Championships in Wattenscheid, becoming the fastest German ever over 100 m after setting a 9.98 second record earlier in June. His wins came as the National Anti‑Doping Agency (NADA) opened a disciplinary proceeding because he refused an unannounced doping test when an official attempted to collect a sample before he left for the airport. No positive test has been reported, but the refusal could trigger a suspension of up to four years under anti‑doping rules. Ansah said he feels “free on the track” and that his coach, management and lawyers support him.

NADA and the World Anti‑Doping Agency (WADA) require athletes in the Registered Testing Pool to be available for random blood or urine sampling at any time. Refusals, missed tests or tampering are treated as violations that may lead to sanctions, even without a positive result.
