Owen Filer celebrates 107th birthday in Wales

Owen Filer, the oldest man in Wales, recently celebrated his 107th birthday. Born in 1919, Filer served in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and later in the military police during World War II.

Attributing his longevity to a moderate lifestyle and simple pleasures, Filer noted that he enjoys fish and chips and believes there is no secret to his age other than “living simply right.”

In recognition of his military service, the charity SSAFA honored him with a memorial statue at the Tredegar Veterans Support Hub. His birthday celebrations included a reception at the Market Hall Cinema in Brynmawr.
