Owen Filer credits fish and chips diet for longevity ahead of 107th birthday
Owen Filer, believed to be the oldest man in Wales, is preparing to celebrate his 107th birthday. A resident of Cwmbran, Filer attributes his longevity to a simple lifestyle, consistent work, and avoiding overeating.
Filer, who was born in 1919, noted that his diet frequently included fish and chips, specifically cod and hake. He remarked on the changing cost and nature of such meals compared to his younger years.
A veteran who served with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and the Military Police during the Second World War, Filer was recently honored by the Armed Forces charity SSAFA. He received a commemorative award in recognition of his military service and his upcoming milestone. He celebrated the occasion with family, friends, and fellow veterans at the Market Hall Cinema in Brynmawr.
