Owen Ndlovu, former SABC sports presenter, found dead after alleged hijacking

Former SABC sports presenter and music industry activist Owen Ndlovu has been found dead in Thokoza, Ekurhuleni, following an alleged hijacking and kidnapping in Katlehong. The 54-year-old was discovered by residents on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.

South African Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing Ndlovu as a significant figure who contributed years to the country’s broadcasting and creative sectors. McKenzie called for those responsible to be brought to justice and expressed support for the South African Police Service investigation.

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party also issued a statement mourning Ndlovu, noting his impact on the sports and cultural sectors. Ndlovu was the founder of Artists United and was known for his advocacy for local musicians. At the time of his death, he was involved in various legal disputes, including matters involving the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) and previous intellectual property disagreements with the SABC.
