Łowicz Mayor Proposes Higher Waste Collection Fees Due to Budget Deficit

Łowicz Mayor Mariusz Siewiera has announced that a new proposal for waste collection fees will be presented to the city council following a failed attempt to implement a smaller increase. Previous efforts to raise monthly rates from 40 PLN to 46 PLN per person were blocked by local councilors.

A recent tender for waste management services revealed that the sole bidder, Zakład Oczyszczania Miasta z Łowicza, submitted a bid of 13,402,476 PLN. This amount exceeds the city's planned budget by more than 300,000 PLN and represents a significant increase compared to previous years.

According to the mayor, the current system is not self-balancing, and the city faces a deficit exacerbated by nearly 1.5 million PLN in unpaid resident bills as of late July. Calculations based on the latest tender suggest a necessary rate of approximately 52.61 PLN per person to cover costs.
