Owl Labs study shows workers trading salary for time flexibility

The tenth ‘State of Hybrid Work’ study by Owl Labs indicates that the debate surrounding hybrid work is shifting from physical location to temporal flexibility. Employees are increasingly seeking greater autonomy over when and how they work, treating time as a new form of currency.

Findings show a growing willingness among workers to trade salary for time. Approximately 58.1% of respondents would accept a pay cut for a four-day workweek, while 60.4% would sacrifice income for more or unlimited vacation time. This trend is most pronounced among Generation Z, with 74.2% willing to earn less for more leisure time, compared to 30.7% of Baby Boomers.

Germany shows a high adoption rate of hybrid work at 52.7%, outpacing the United Kingdom (45%), France (32%), and the United States (25%). Additionally, the study highlights economic pressures, noting that 33.8% of workers require supplemental income from side jobs to cover living costs, and 40.9% of employees regularly work on Sundays.
