Owlcat Games eyed as potential developer for Baldur's Gate IV

Owlcat Games, the Swedish studio behind the Pathfinder series and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, is being discussed as a candidate to develop the next Baldur's Gate title. Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are seeking a new studio after Larian Studios announced it will move away from Dungeons & Dragons projects. Co‑founder and Creative Director Alexander Mishulin told IGN that the biggest danger for any studio taking over the franchise would be trying to replicate Baldur's Gate III, saying, “It will not be Larian's BG3, because BG3 is very Larian formula… any studio that would be trying to replicate that is bound to fail.”

Mishulin also expressed openness to the opportunity, thanking fans for their support, but noted that no formal agreement has been reached. The discussion highlights the challenge of giving the sequel its own identity while satisfying the expectations of a highly successful RPG series.
