Owlcat Games reveals choice mechanics for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

Developer Owlcat Games has revealed new details regarding player agency and consequence systems in the upcoming sci-fi action RPG, ‘The Expanse: Osiris Reborn’. The game features deep decision-making mechanics where choices can impact entire space stations, faction relationships, and the development of crew companions.

Character origins—such as being a Martian, an Earther, or a Belter—provide unique backgrounds and access to faction-specific missions without strictly locking players into a single political allegiance. For example, players can choose to defend a station against mercenaries, which may facilitate an easier escape but risk destroying the station, or choose to stand down to spare the personnel at the cost of a more difficult escape.

Companion development is also a core feature. Interactions with crew members, such as the young Belter Polly, influence their growth and eventual professions. Players can select a mentor for Polly, which determines whether she pursues paths like hacking, engineering, or medicine, subsequently unlocking unique non-combat skill lines and altering her appearance.
