Owlchemy Labs announces Single Player Mode for Dimensional Double Shift
Owlchemy Labs has announced that its cooperative VR title, Dimensional Double Shift (DDS), will receive a Single Player Mode in the first half of 2027. This premium feature is designed to replicate the multiplayer experience for solo players through the use of AI-powered robotic coworkers known as T. E. M. P.s (Totally Expendable Multi-dimensional Personnel).
To facilitate natural interaction, the mode utilizes non-generative AI to interpret spoken player requests, allowing users to coordinate with their AI crew using natural language. While the AI handles task comprehension, all dialogue remains authored by the studio's writing team to maintain narrative control. Artificial Agency, a startup founded by former Google DeepMind researchers, developed the AI system using small, locally deployable models that offer cost-efficient, responsive NPC behaviors.
In addition to the new mode, DDS is expanding its platform availability to Steam Frame, and controller support has been implemented for Meta Quest and Galaxy XR devices. The game has seen significant engagement since its open beta, surpassing one million downloads and 2.5 million logged hours.
