A mysterious artificial intelligence model named Ox Alpha has emerged on the OpenRouter platform, generating significant interest among developers due to its high performance and anonymous origin. Released under a “stealth” label, the model offers a massive context window of approximately one million tokens and supports text, image, and video inputs. It is specifically designed for complex reasoning, coding, and autonomous agentic tasks.

Ox Alpha has gained attention for its coding capabilities, with some community benchmarks suggesting it performs competitively against established models like Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol. Stripe CEO Patrick Collison described the model as “very impressive.” The model was initially offered for free with near-unlimited usage for a limited period, with reports suggesting the provider has the capacity to process up to 100 trillion tokens per day.

The identity of the developer remains unconfirmed, sparking widespread speculation. Many researchers point toward Chinese AI laboratories, specifically Zhipu AI, citing technical similarities in tokenizer behavior and error message formats. Other theories suggest potential involvement from Microsoft’s MAI or other major tech entities.
