Z.ai reveals Ox Alpha is its new GLM-5.3-Flash AI model

Chinese AI company Z.ai, also known as Zhipu, has revealed that the mysterious “Ox Alpha” model, which recently topped the OpenRouter usage charts, is actually an anonymous preview of its new GLM-5.3-Flash model. The model is a multimodal, open-weight system capable of processing text, images, and video with a context window of up to 1 million tokens. Z.ai has released the model weights on Hugging Face, allowing developers to build upon the technology. The model is designed for coding, agentic tasks, and complex reasoning, and is reportedly optimized to run on Chinese AI chips.

Separately, Google DeepMind has launched a pilot program for the world’s first double-blind AI model evaluations. This initiative uses cryptographic safeguards within a secure environment to prevent benchmark contamination. By ensuring that neither the model creators nor the evaluators can see each other’s sensitive data—such as model weights or specific test prompts—the process aims to increase the reliability and transparency of AI performance metrics. The pilot program involves testing the Gemini Flash Lite model in collaboration with partners including the Singapore AI Safety Institute and MLCommons.
