Oxchuc implements permanent alcohol ban following community vote

In the municipality of Oxchuc, Chiapas, a community assembly of approximately 500 residents has approved a permanent ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages. The measure aims to protect local youth from addiction, violence, and forced prostitution.

Following the decision, municipal police and health authorities conducted raids on grocery stores and homes to seize products. These operations resulted in the detention of 13 individuals for opposing the measure. During a public demonstration in front of the Municipal Palace, residents destroyed thousands of bottles of liquor and beer. Local officials defended the actions, stating the decision represents the will of the people.
