Oxelösund industrial site raid uncovers labor violations

Authorities conducted a joint inspection at an industrial site in Oxelösund during a major maintenance shutdown, uncovering significant labor violations. The operation, initiated by the Center against Labor Crime (AKC) East, targeted approximately ten companies to ensure compliance with safety, posting, and security regulations.

During the raid, police detained 20 foreign nationals who lacked the legal right to work or reside in Sweden. These individuals were reportedly employed by a single Dutch electrical installation company. Investigators noted that the workers were missing from the mandatory posting register and reported working significantly more than 40 hours per week. Police are investigating the possibility of human exploitation, noting that the workers may be potential victims.

While SSAB stated that the individuals were not their employees and that they are cooperating fully with authorities, the Swedish Work Environment Authority indicated that SSAB bears responsibility for oversight since the work was performed on their premises. The detained individuals are expected to be deported from the country.
