Oxford, Mississippi, sees growth in live music and comedy scenes

Oxford, Mississippi, is seeing a rise in local entertainment through expanding live music and stand-up comedy scenes.

Upcoming musical performances at venues such as Proud Larry’s include indie-alternative acts Local Brand and The Pinksheets, country musician Michael Farris Smith & The Smokes, and the local alternative country band Singlewide Band.

In the comedy sector, the Oxford Comedy Collective—formed by comedians Walt Karr, Connor King, Ayric Bradley, Chris Green, and Glisto Rice—is working to establish a regular comedy presence in the city. The group produces monthly shows and has organized independent events, including a scheduled roast of former Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin at The Lyric on September 16.
