Oxkutzcab school ceiling fan collapse injures three children

Three fourth-grade students were injured on Friday morning when a ceiling fan collapsed in a classroom at the Jacinto Canek elementary school in Oxkutzcab, Yucatán.

Local police and paramedics responded to the scene to provide first aid. The three children were subsequently transported to a clinic of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) for specialized medical evaluation.

The incident has sparked outrage among parents, who are demanding that the Secretariat of Education of the Government of the State of Yucatán (SEGEY) conduct urgent inspections of electrical infrastructure and classroom equipment. Parents noted that the school building shows significant deterioration due to its age. This event follows a similar accident that occurred several weeks ago in a primary school in the municipality of Tizimín, leading to calls for a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for schools in the region.
