Oxnard shooting victim identified as 19-year-old Five Guys employee

Authorities have identified 19-year-old Jonathan Vasquez J. R., known as “JJ,” as the victim of a shooting at a Five Guys restaurant in Oxnard, California. Vasquez, a Ventura College student, was on a break inside the establishment when a gunshot was fired outside during an altercation involving a 16-year-old suspect and two other unidentified males.

The Oxnard Police Department stated that Vasquez was not the intended target of the shooting. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition after being struck once.

Following an investigation, Oxnard SWAT and K9 Unit officers arrested a 16-year-old male suspect as he was leaving his residence. The teenager has been booked into the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of attempted murder. The motive behind the original altercation remains under investigation.
