OXXO expands retail presence in Peru and digital payments in Mexico
OXXO is expanding its footprint in Peru and strengthening its digital payment services in Mexico. In Arequipa, the convenience store chain has opened a new location in the San Agustín district near the Plaza de Armas, bringing its total number of establishments in the city to 21. Juan Carlos Fajardo, General Manager of OXXO Peru, stated that Arequipa is a key plaza in the company's growth strategy.
In Mexico, FEMSA reported that OXXO has reached 24,455 operating stores as of the end of the first quarter of 2026. The company is seeing significant use of OXXO Pay, a service that allows customers to complete online purchases using cash at physical store counters. This mechanism is particularly relevant in regions like Veracruz, where cash remains a primary method for many consumers to conduct transactions.
