Oyo State political landscape shifts ahead of 2027 elections
Political activity is intensifying in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections. A legal dispute has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding its governorship candidacy. The Oyo Youth Alliance (OYA) reported that a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja challenges the nomination of Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, whom the party submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in August 2026. The litigation aims to clarify the authentic candidate following claims by aspirant Dr. Gbemileke Alagbe.
In a separate development, ADC candidate Olooye Adegoke has outlined a platform focused on local government autonomy and qualitative education. Meanwhile, the African Action Congress (AAC) is positioning itself as a primary opposition force in the state. AAC Chairman Kayode Babayomi stated that the party is expanding its organizational structure across all local government areas in Oyo State and claims to be the only party fully prepared for the upcoming elections.
