Nigeria 2027: Political actors mobilize for upcoming elections

Political activity in Nigeria is intensifying ahead of the 2027 general elections, marked by various endorsements, strategic alliances, and high-stakes political pledges.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has declared he will resign his cabinet position on January 17, 2027, if President Bola Tinubu fails to win in both the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State. Wike is also organizing a multi-party coalition in the FCT to secure victories across elective offices.

In Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji and PDP candidate Dr. Wole Oluyede have formed a cross-party alliance to mobilize support for President Tinubu, targeting 90 per cent of the state's votes. Meanwhile, the pan-Yoruba group Afenifere has officially endorsed Tinubu for a second term, while also calling for increased security measures against bandits and terrorists.

In Oyo State, APC governorship candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli has promised local government autonomy and significant reforms in education and health. In Adamawa, governorship candidates have signed a peace accord to ensure non-violent, issue-based campaigns. Additionally, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed Rotimi Amaechi as the running mate for Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential race.
