Nigeria 2027: Candidates launch campaigns and policy blueprints

Political activities in Nigeria are intensifying as various candidates and parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections. Social Democratic Party candidate Adewole Adebayo is set to unveil a policy blueprint titled ‘Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity’ to address economic hardship and national security.

In regional contests, Abubakar Chika Malami has launched his Kebbi governorship campaign for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), focusing on healthcare, education, and agriculture. Similarly, ADC candidates across seven Northwest states have signed a compact pledging a N110,000 minimum wage and the establishment of 21 specialist hospitals to combat insecurity and poverty.

In Kaduna State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced it will focus its campaign on the achievements of Governor Uba Sani, specifically in education and healthcare. Meanwhile, in Ogun State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Oladipupo Adebutu has flagged off a campaign centered on ‘ITURA DE’ to address unemployment and insecurity. In Abia State, the PDP has also commenced its campaign to reclaim the governorship from the Labour Party.

Other notable developments include Seyi Makinde proposing a restructuring of domestic crude pricing to lower petrol costs, and Kwara State PDP candidate Suleiman Bolakale Kawu condemning the removal of his campaign billboards. In Benue, PDP candidate Michael Aondoakaa emphasized that the 2027 election will allow voters to decide on Governor Hyacinth Alia’s second term.
