Oyo State Electoral Commission Extends LG Primary Election Deadline to Aug 5, 2026

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) announced that the deadline for political parties to conduct chairmanship and councillorship primary elections has been moved to August 5, 2026. The original deadline of July 27 was extended by nine days, covering the period July 28‑August 5, following a request from the state Inter‑Party Advisory Council (IPAC) signed by Secretary Hon Dairo Olayinka.

Commission Chairman Dr. Afees Adeniyi said the extension will give parties sufficient time to complete documentation and comply with electoral guidelines, aiming for a credible and inclusive process ahead of the local government elections scheduled for December 29, 2026. All other dates in the election timetable remain unchanged.
