Oyo State Governor receives report on Oriire school abductions
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has received the report from a Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the abduction of students and teachers in the Esinele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area.
The commission, led by retired Justice Mojeed Owoade, was established following a May 2026 attack on three schools. Its mandate was to determine the circumstances of the abduction, evaluate the response of relevant institutions, and identify any intelligence, administrative, or operational failures.
Governor Makinde pledged to review the recommendations and provide a public response, stating that “confidentiality will not be used as an excuse to avoid accountability.” He noted that while the return of the victims brought relief, the government remains responsible for addressing the trauma and improving the state's security architecture.
