Oyo State implements Ibadan Circular Road to prevent urban planning challenges
The Oyo State government has identified the Ibadan Circular Road project as a strategic masterplan designed to prevent future urban planning failures and manage rapid population growth. Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal described the 110km initiative as a proactive measure to mitigate traffic congestion and urban sprawl, particularly in the state capital, Ibadan.
By establishing a circular route, the government aims to provide a bypass for heavy-duty vehicles and transit traffic, reducing pressure on existing arterial roads in densely populated centers. The project is also intended to secure development corridors early, avoiding the high costs of future large-scale demolitions and service rerouting.
Addressing concerns regarding property impacts, Lawal stated that the project is a deliberate effort to secure the state's future and assured that all affected individuals would receive appropriate compensation. The development is expected to stimulate economic activity and real estate growth in peri-urban areas, such as the Egbeda Local Government Area.
