Oyo State journalists receive free health screening, high hypertension cases found

A free medical outreach was held at the Correspondents’ Chapel secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State, providing screenings, consultations and medication to roughly 50 journalists and local residents. The event was organized by the Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in partnership with NIKZAR Medical Centre as part of the centre’s corporate‑social‑responsibility programme.

Senior Medical Officer Dr Jefferson Jide Nwanoka reported that the majority of diagnosed conditions were hypertension, prescribing treatment and referring several participants for further hospital evaluation. He stressed that routine medical examinations are essential for early detection and urged journalists and the public to prioritise regular health check‑ups. Beneficiaries and NUJ officials praised the initiative as timely and beneficial.
