Oyo State launches HIV surveillance survey training

The Oyo State Government has launched training for field and technical personnel in preparation for the 2026 Integrated Biological and Behavioural Surveillance Survey (IBBSS). This initiative is part of a nationwide effort to collect reliable biological and behavioural data to strengthen HIV prevention and control strategies.

According to Aare (Dr) Gbola Adetunji, Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA), the survey is essential for understanding emerging HIV trends, identifying service gaps, and guiding the allocation of resources. The data will focus on socio-demographic characteristics, risk behaviours, and access to care among key populations, including female sex workers, men who have sex with men, and people who inject drugs.

The government emphasized that updated data is necessary to assess the impact of current interventions and to shape future health policies and programming.
