Oyo State Police dismantle interstate child-trafficking syndicate
The Oyo State Police Command has dismantled an interstate child-trafficking syndicate, rescuing 17 children and arresting seven suspects. The investigation, which spanned Oyo, Ogun, and Delta States, was triggered by a petition filed by Adejoke Popoola, also known as Orente Alagbo, on July 29, 2026.
Police revealed that Popoola confessed to being involved in the theft and sale of children since October 2024. She admitted to selling her own biological children, including a newborn and a set of twins, and using various disguises—such as a spiritualist or a prospective tenant—to abduct children from public venues like churches and festivals.
Following Popoola's arrest on August 4, detectives identified and arrested Adekanbi Janet in Ogun State, where four children and two pregnant women were recovered. The operation further extended to Agbor, Delta State, where four more children were rescued and two suspects, Christopher Joy and Rosemary Jesse, were apprehended. Authorities also confirmed that six children died while in the syndicate's custody, with allegations that their bodies were sometimes transferred for ritual activities.
